# Issue Gate > Generates GitHub's native issue forms with steps-to-reproduce made mandatory, blank issues disabled, and contact links ordered by usefulness. No bot, no AI, no dependencies. GitHub's built-in bug report form leaves "Steps To Reproduce" optional. Reports that say only "it doesn't work" pass straight through and land on a maintainer. Issue Gate writes the same native YAML files, that one field required. - Runtime: Python 3.10+, standard library only - Output: `.github/ISSUE_TEMPLATE/bug.yml`, `feature.yml`, `question.yml`, `config.yml` - Detection: Node, Python, Rust, Go, Java, Ruby, PHP - Verified on itself: the four forms shipped in this repo are generated by this tool ## Usage ``` python __main__.py # generate into the current repo python __main__.py --dry-run # print the diff, write nothing python __main__.py --self-check # generate into a temp repo and verify python __main__.py --discussions # link contact entries to Discussions python __main__.py --docs URL # "read the docs first" contact link ``` Existing files are never overwritten; the tool reports them as skipped. ## When to use Small and mid-size open source projects where maintainer time is the scarce resource and incoming issues are mostly low-effort. Not useful if you triage with AI, since the problem does not exist in that case. ## Links - Repository: https://github.com/danyblitz-bit/issue-gate - Landing page: https://danyblitz-bit.github.io/issue-gate/ - License: MIT
